Cynicism and Writing

My pretend book proposal about the trials of living a writing life will be entitled "My Deal with the Devil." (see previous post) I've been kicking it around in my head for years. I've gone as far as outlining chapters:
Lady as Devil

Good, Bad and Ugly (How Cliches Still Mean You Suck)
I Tweet, Therefore I Tweet
From the Land of Bloz (Blog+Oz)
Productively Using Controlled Substances to Boost Your Output
Leave-Me-the-F**k-Alone-To-Write Support Group
DIY/Indie Disaster(s) in Paradise
Distractions? Look!
Revisions and Hail Marys

Okay, so I'm a little cynical. It doesn't help. Trust me. It doesn't help. But having tried to do my best to get on the other side of a book deal, there is hope. And I have a list of chapters that temper the horned heckler on my shoulder.

Your Words Matter
God Loves a Good Story
Oz is Green and Everyone's Happy
The Real Stuff Isn't Out There, It's In Here
Mom Always Said You'd Amount to Something
Write Because You Can

See? I'm not a lost cause.

  2. A Template Song

    a face in the half-light was moon-pocked
and i fell ass over ash can
into the milky disks of the mare procellarum

would i be seen the way i was seeing
    and wanted seeing
would this be read to show the real me
the me yearning to be an
    other

am i to be found behind the fullness of this mask
could the part be a curtained past
    i would be unfolded, unwaved

    unwavering
    thoughts tumble
    with my misstep

    exposed
    this i uncontoured even
    by my own atlas dreams--
    frau morrow

    contest the packed back
    into the shelled
    husk
    cobbled into chapters
    of would be
    profundis

    still

    singing a rough song
    fractalized
    the self will
    keep keeping

    an immanence
    holy in the center
    of bloodied sustenance
    there is a giving

    a shine

    the curtain
    announces utter being
    i am only folds
    and i am bursting
    to
    exfoliate

    a very skin
    not flake or slough
    but
    disgorge

    nursed by milky
    change

    not loss
    but cause
